Rehearsals are now in full swing for the Society’s upcoming annual spring production. This is an eventful year for us given that it is the tenth anniversary of the opening of the Island Civic Centre and the Island Hall. In 2001 we had the honour and privilege of presenting the very first theatrical performance in this beautiful venue with our production of Oklahoma. To mark the tenth anniversary the Society, with the support of Lisburn City Council, has chosen Franz Lehar’s ever popular Merry Widow. Over the years The Merry Widow has been probably the most performed show by most local societies and it is considered by all to be the perfect company/society and audience show with its wonderful Lehar score, comedy, drama (not too serious) and of course its wonderful movement and dance including the energetic Can-Can like show-stopper. This year our principal cast and chorus includes many who are experiencing the “Widow” for the first time and all have thrown themselves into the spirit of not only the Merry Widow but the traditions of the Society itself. One has only to look at our cast list to see a preponderance of new faces in principal roles; but lest we forget there is still a fair number of 'old' faces on show and the Society is particularly pleased to welcome that stalwart of the local scene, Fortwilliam’s Michael Blair in the role of the slightly pompous but likeable old rogue Baron Zeta. So if you haven’t already booked for the show, 12th – 16th April at 7.30. Be sure to book soon to avoid disappointment See you all there! |
